INTRODUCTION
Millennium Greens are areas of green space for the benefit of local communities in England. 245 were created in cities, towns & villages to celebrate the turn of the millennium. Their creation was funded in part by the National Lottery via the Countryside Agency. The project to create 250 Millennium Greens started in 1996 & ended when the last green was handed over to its own local charitable trust in perpetuity. Sproughton Millenium Green (SMG) is one such Millennium Green. It is a 4 acre open green space next to the River Gipping in Sproughton. The green is used regularly by people walking the river path, dog walkers & for recreation. It is not unusual to find people from outside Sproughton picnicking on the grass. The green is also used for various events & is freely available to Sproughton residents to use for such purposes. For example celebrations were held for the Kings Coronation in 2023 and the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
THE CHARITY & TRUSTEES
The Millennium Green is run by a committee that meets regularly. All SMG trustees sit on the committee. The trustees are Charlie Barber, David Barnes, Simon Curl, Neil Lister, Emma Middleditch, Mark Scannell, Darren Smith & Jon Tuppen. Charity number 1068475.

MAINTENANCE & FUNDING OF THE MILLENIUM GREEN
The trustees and other residents have maintenance work groups. We look after the paths, fences, benches and make sure the grass is cut regularly.
We are working to establish some wildflower areas and habitats to encourage and protect wildlife
We have regular tree surveys and employ professionals to make sure the footpaths and common areas are safe.
All this work costs a significant amount of money each year. Our main method of fundraising is through people buying tickets to the Sproughton Millenium Green 100+ club lottery.
